Gait Training

Our Gait Training program is designed for adults who want to walk more safely, more comfortably, and with greater confidence in daily life. Whether you are recovering from surgery, managing a chronic condition, or noticing that your walking has simply become less steady over time, we bring structured, one-on-one gait rehabilitation directly into your home.

We begin with detailed Walking Pattern Correction. During this evaluation, we look closely at how each part of your body moves - your feet position, stride length, knee and hip motion, trunk rotation, and arm swing. We identify habits such as limping, shuffling, or favoring one leg, then teach you specific cues and exercises to correct them. This not only improves efficiency, but also reduces stress on painful joints.

Functional Ambulation Therapy then takes those improvements into the real world. Together, we practice walking in the exact environments that matter to you: hallways, door thresholds, stairs, driveways, porches, and uneven outdoor surfaces. We incorporate turns, carrying objects, talking while walking, and other everyday challenges that often trigger imbalance.

Depending on your needs, your program may also include strengthening for key muscle groups, gentle stretching for tight areas limiting your stride, and balance drills that support a smoother, safer gait. If you use a cane, walker, or other device, we ensure it is properly fitted and that you know how to use it without increasing your fall risk.

Because all sessions are one-on-one, we can respond immediately to pain, fatigue, or fear of falling, adjusting in real time so you continue to progress. Our goal is for you to walk with a more natural rhythm, conserve energy, and feel secure moving around your home and community - not just in therapy, but every day.
